Working Principle

Rotary evaporation is based on vacuum distillation.

Under reduced pressure, the material-containing flask rotates at a controlled speed while the heating bath provides uniform heating. The reduced pressure lowers the boiling point of the solvent. As the flask rotates, the liquid forms a thin film on the inner surface, promoting evaporation.

The solvent vapor then enters the condenser, where it is condensed and collected in the receiving flask.

This combination of vacuum, rotation, controlled heating and condensation enables continuous solvent evaporation and recovery.

Main Applications

Rotary evaporators can be used for:

Solution Concentration: Concentrate solutions by removing volatile solvents under reduced pressure.

Solvent Recovery: Recover evaporated solvents through the condenser and collection flask.

Chemical Separation: Support separation processes involving volatile solvent components.

Essential Oil Extraction: Used for evaporation and concentration processes in essential-oil-related applications.

Sample Solvent Removal: Remove solvents from laboratory samples after synthesis, extraction or separation.

Extract Concentration & Crystallization: Particularly suitable for concentration and crystallization of extracts.

Chromatographic Applications:Used for distillation of receiving liquids in chromatographic separation processes.

These applications are specifically identified in the supplied rotary evaporator documentation.

FAQs

Q1. What is a rotary evaporator used for?

A rotary evaporator is mainly used for continuous distillation of volatile solvents under reduced pressure. Typical applications include solution concentration, solvent recovery, chemical separation, essential oil extraction and solvent removal from samples.

Q2. How does a rotary evaporator work?

The rotary flask is heated uniformly while rotating under reduced pressure. The reduced pressure lowers the solvent boiling point, while rotation forms a liquid film that promotes evaporation. The solvent vapor is then condensed and collected.

Q3. What capacities are available?

The supplied product range covers small-sized models from 1 L to 5 L and large-sized models from 5 L to 50 L, depending on the specific series.

Q4. What is the temperature range?

The temperature range depends on the model. Small-sized Tech. models are specified at room temperature +5 to 180°C, while small-sized Standard models are specified at room temperature to 180°C. Large-sized models have lower specified bath-temperature ranges depending on configuration.

Q5. Can a cooling circulator be connected?

Yes. A cooling circulator can be connected as optional supporting equipment according to the system configuration.

Q6. What is the difference between the Tech. and Std. series?

The Tech. and Std. series use different model configurations, capacities and equipment specifications. The main differences can be found in parameters such as rotational-speed range, condenser configuration, heating-bath lifting method and temperature range. The appropriate series should be selected according to the required process and capacity.

Q7. Can you provide a rotary evaporator with a specific configuration?

Yes. For custom requirements, please contact us with your required flask capacity, rotational-speed range, heating requirements and supporting equipment configuration.
